Can i play NTSC games on my EU wii ?
The chocobo final fantasy is coming out in NA but not in the EU . Will i be able to play it on my wii ?Can i play NTSC games on my EU wii ?
Unfortunately noTheres the option of buying the freeloader which will let you play import games, but Nintendo will probably attempt to block it by the time that game comes out. Can i play NTSC games on my EU wii ?
Ah considering square-enix's recent statements on worldwide releases it will likely hit the EU a few months after the US.Btw the freeloader people state they will send out a new version of the freeloader if a version gets blocked you just gotta keep the receipt.

Wii Problems I'm Worried
I have the Red and Green pixel problem in some games. How does this happen? Is it from having WiiConnect24 in stand by and having the LED light to be yellow/orange instead of red? I'm sending my Wii to Nintnendo. Once I get it back can I have it in stand by and is there a chance it will lose memory because I have a lot of stuff on SSBB that I don't want to be erased seeing as you cant back SSBB data on to a SD card?
Please help.Wii Problems I'm Worried
Please help guys.Wii Problems I'm Worried
Not this again. A small number of wiis have defective heatsinks on the videocard. Those pixel issues are the first warning sign that the card is dying. Call Nintendo tell them what is occuring and that you want a repair and transfer of all vc purchases points, and save game data. They will talk you through the procedure it takes a week or less to get the box then a another week or to get the wii back. Nintendo will extend the warranty and sometimes they throw in a freebie or two. Be calm patient rational. Do not panic or cuss because the Nintendo customer support is top notch.
You should be able to leave wiiconnect24 on without problems I have since launch and no problems so I would imagine its just a faulty system.

I have had mine for a year and It's only been happening the past few weeks.
As had been ad nauseum and Nintendo will confirm this the red and green pixel issue is a defective heatsink on the video card. The video card has a manufactoring defect and is dying. The wii has to be sent in for repairs. Seriously do some reading. This has been posted thousands of times. Wiiconnect24 just causes the defective video card to be noticed earlier.

PC games that should be ported/ remade f ...
I'm a PC gamer. I love the accuracy and speed of the keyboard and mouse controls. But the wiimote has a ton of promise particularily in the FPS/TPS/RTS genres and I would love to see some of the PCs best games either ported or remade for the Wii. Imagine Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike Source, Battlefield 2, Starcraft, Civilization, or Call of Duty with the Wii-remote in your hand. I drool at the thought of it. PC games that should be ported/ remade f ...
Mario teaches typing :P But...seriously now, how would we play a game like counter strike, or Warcraft 3, or starcraft on the wii, especially since the online is bare bones.Call of Duty fails on wii, 3 proved it.PC games that should be ported/ remade f ...
Half life 2 could be done easily. But counter strike source, wouldn't look all that great at all. More demanding than half life 2 was. But seriously, if anything was ported, how about pc versions of the gta games? It'd be perfect. They'd look more like the xbox counterparts, and have good control. Be a good seller as well. Diablo wouldn't be so bad if it was remade, but I don't see blizzard doing that. Serious sam seems like a perfect contender though. Its more of a casual fps, arcadey feel, and it'd be good to have a party with. Why not?
hell yes, please, starcraft 2 port.
I would like to see FPS like Counter Strike ported to the Wii.

I'd like to have the Half-Life 2 episodes on one disc eventually.
I'd like to have the Half-Life 2 episodes on one disc eventually.
I agree, it would be awesome to have HL2 on Wii. And have all HL2 episodes in one disc.
I would really like to see Starcraft ported to the Wii, the controls would work out pretty well. Hopefully Blizzard could put together a good online mode though.
alot of the old classics, the baldurs gates, the outcasts (ooo i wonder how wii would be able to deal with a voxel engine?), the deus ex 1s, freespace series, total war series (shogun and medieval 1 should certinaly be possible on wii), the classic lucas arts games. aww crap theres loads...i could go on all day.

New Balance Board ad - Quite smart [Edit ...
I don't know if the Balance Board is being advertised in USA and how, but here in France where I live, I happened to see an interesting ad for the Balance Board. I actually just heard it, since I was in my room, but I could clearly listen to the TV. The ad just said something like:''This is the Balance Board. Put it in front of your TV. Stand on it. Balance Board, to be used with the Wii.''See it? No? Well, the ad is advertising solely the Balance Board, not WiiFit. It's pretty smart from Nintendo, people won't think the Balance Board is just for WiiFit, but for a range of games that will be advertised later (Reggie confirmed there are more than 10 games being developed right now).I just saw another ad, in the metro. It was a simple picture of the Balance Board and the text: ''This is a board. What is it for?''.As usual, Nintendo is doing it right. And maybe, it means the Balance Board may be sold separatedly sooner than we expect. Maybe on launch day, at least here in Europe.New Balance Board ad - Quite smart [Edit ...
ooh 10 games? i look forward to thatNew Balance Board ad - Quite smart [Edit ...
I too think that is a good way to advertise. I'd like to see Nintendo start promoting the balance board in the Americas soon (then again I haven't been watching much broadcast TV lately.) I'm really looking forward to WiiFit, along with what may just be some really great games that take good advantage of the Balance Board.
I do see the strategy of the way they revealed it... It's pretty ingenious if you ask me.
Consumer: ''Ooh, that looks fun, I'll pick that up''
*Wii Fit comes out*
Consumer: ...''and I can use it to get into shape, I gotta tell Aunt Susanne''
*Wii Fit and other games using the balance board sell millions*
That would be the most ideal way of it happening :P
For some reason Nintendo or the third party games sourrounding it do not advertise much in the uS. SSBB would have been even more than it was if they had a little better advertising than ''WII WOULD LIKE TO PLAY.''

Its nice to have a console sell but appearantly the Wii does not need advertising. What DOES need advertising is the software on it.This is not the right path because some games have suffered. notice the other consoles advertise third party games as well. Nintendo should have totally been behind games like MoH: H2 and Zack and Wiki. If they are going to do these ambiguous advertisements then show more games and not just games from Nintendo. If they want to get serious with marketing make some game specific commercials and inform the gamers that dont go to websites for their info. I know people buying games like Army of Two because they have a really good commercial but are in fact not very good games. If Nintendo really show cased SSBB in some ads they would have surpassed Halo 3 in best first week seller.

Haven't stopped
Who else hasn't played any other Wii game since Brawl?Haven't stopped
Not me. Recently, been playing Metroid Prime 3 again, and i was playing gh3 before i sent in the disc.
Haven't stopped
I played it for three or four days then started going back to galaxy and endless ocean. But I still fire it up five or six times a week.

Don't have time anyway. my semester is coming to a close soon and I have finals coming up in 2 weeks but before that I have tests and assignments and papers to complete. Soon as I'm done, my summer officially being in 3 weeks and thats when gta iv comes out. can't wait. got a lil break to play that before summer school starts on may 12.

VC that you would die for
What games would you die for to have put on VC? For Me: Donkey Kong 64, Majoras Mask , Conke's Bad Fur DAY, Banja Kazooie/TooieVC that you would die for
None. because if I had to die for them I wouldn't get to play them would I? But I guess I would be sacrificing myself for the good of all the others that would get to play it. For a title such as that all the FF (IV / VI) would need to get released on the VC. That and the rest of the SNES library

I doubt we will see more than two colors. Black and white, thats probably all that will come.
What part of... ''They can't make enough of white''Are people still having trouble with?I mean they're sold out worldwide yet people wonder why we only have white, nevermind that white can't stay on a retail shelf for over 24 hours.
I actually delayed myself from buying extra wiimotes for a while just so that I can have one white, one green, one red, and a orange one. Heres a question:Would you put down $ buy a wiimote in a shiny new color? I would get the red.
I'm not caring as the Wii is a good peice of blank canvas which i will sooner or later get to design myself.
Well I know some peeps are saying if they can't make enough of white then why make the other colors but I have two things to say: One, before the Wii came out Nintendo advertised the wii in different colors obviously making people wonder now where those colors are. Two, I am a senior in high school and am taking economics and it is the rule of supply and demand and making a profit that Nintendo is using to make us think they aren't producing enough wiis. It's just a ploy to make wiis more scarce and having people always on their toes to find one. People want what they can't have, and if someone can't find a wii, they'll try even harder to get one.

Gamecube data to Wii Hardware
I'm thinking the answer is no, but i thought I would ask anyways. Is there any way to get your Gamecube data onto the Wii hardware? Because i hate having to constantly have my memory card in there in order to play any of my old games. Gamecube data to Wii Hardware
nope, u need a GC memory card for thtGamecube data to Wii Hardware
You guessed right...no
Nope. Even then, you won't be able to use it when the Wii goes into GameCube mode.

That would be horrible. I wouldn't want to use my hands to play the drums, not to mention it would be much harder then the sticks. And what are you going to use as the foot peddle? hahah... maybe if you could use them as a congo solo in the game.. not as a substitute for drums... that sound like the intro to sum kind of carribean theme on a game called ''Rock Band!!!!'' :P

whats your favorite wii game and why
well to start things off,my favorite wii game is brawl because of: the awesome graphics, good gameplay and soundtrack your turn 8)whats your favorite wii game and why
MLB Power Pros because no other games showcases all the Wii can do better then it.It's got a great look, gameplay for literally any style of gamer, and is the longest game on the console with hundreds of hours of gaming.whats your favorite wii game and why
Its a toss up between Zack and Wiki and MLB Power ProsZack and Wiki looks great, it makes great use of the wiimote, but most importantly it has some of the most genius puzzles Ive seen in a video game in a long dang timeMLB Power Pros also looks great, it has great controls (but they arent what you would expect), its got a lot of depth, its got a great sense of humor, and it doesnt get old. and both of these games are (and have always been) budget priced.
awesome
SSBB, good times with friends. I could care less about ''showcasing'' what the Wii can do and all of that. When it comes down to it, I want to have fun when I play a video game. And I get that from games like SSBB.
gh3 i no i will love rock band cause i already tryed the ps2 version
Wow, so many, but i had the most fun with either SMG or MP3.
MP3 because the controls are just amazing, and its by far the best prime game in the trilogy -- Awesome graphics, controls and sound track.
SMG because it made me feel like i was 10 years old again, not to mention i played that game for about 6 hours straight the day i got it ... something i dont do as often as i used to do.
Between Galaxy and Zack %26 Wiki.
mine would have to be either super mario galaxy, or No more heroes
both have awesome art stlyes, great gameplay elements, and both have really good wii fuctions.

I didn't play it so I can't judge.But... from what I've heard, it barely use the wimote. I heard it was just for swinging. And I think that a game showcase the Wii is a game that is made for the wiimote in mind. So I kinda desagree with you but that's unless I'm misinformed on the controls.
In no particular order:
WII Sports is best right now it takes advantage of all the controlsSuper Smash Bros Brawl cause it uses the old controls from the Cube, ONLY the mote or both.
Apart from Brawl (the obvious answer) I'd say Metroid Prime 3 or Sonic and the Secret Rings. Sonic is greatly overlooked. Most people play the first few levels and give up because they don't like the controls. But as you progress and get more skills, the game becomes a lot faster, easier to control, and a whole lot funner and deeper.By the end, (once you unlock the Wind Crest skill) Sonic rips through levels at insanely high speeds. There's a ridiculously huge difference between the beginning of the game and the end, similar to many RPG's.
Guitar Hero 3 because its fun to play with people and Brawl because its fun to play with people and its 4 players
At the moment, Twilight Princess, Brawl and Guitar Hero III. Galaxy will be one as well but I haven't finished it yet

Rock Band for the Wii
Is anyone going to pick this up for the wii in june even though it won't have online or downloadable content? It will have extra songs and unlockables though that the other ones didn't have. I think i am. mainly cause me and my girlfriend are gonna split the cost half and half. and cause i loved Guitar Hero.Rock Band for the Wii
i will definately get it. my girlfriend loves drums, and i love guitar. its a match made in heaven! i don care much for online play and customization because to be honest, there's no need to play dress-up in a game like this. if people are not going to buy it solely for that reason (ergo, lack of both features) then they deserve a facepalm for being so shallow and spoiled. Rock Band for the Wii
Definitely. I loved Guitar Hero, and whenever I get Rock Band, I'll love it.

I won't be getting it solely because the price is too much for my fancy.

Actually, I played Rock Band for the X360 for the first time this weekend and loved it. BUT, the lack of new songs to play after 20 or so hours wore on me. So much so that I was looking over the download list noticing more Metalica, Boston, etc songs that I would have downloaded myself given it was my own copy.
I wasn't a big fan of the customization or online play, but the DLC is a required for rhythm games IMO. If you get sick of the packaged songs you just download the new pack for the week or the month. You don't have to wait for the sequel, or get remixes of the same songs you have already played to death in the sequel either. This stance is against my traditional views as I prefer sequels to just piece-meal expansion packs, but with a game based around music it works perfect. There is no story to screw up or tack onto at the end or what not so it just 'fits'.
I wouldn't call me shallow or spoiled. Given the option to have DLC or not, I would take DLC every time (with rhythm games). The problem is Wii owners are not even gven the option. So now the question is the DLC worth the price of another console? Once you package up the whole line-up of a different console, along with DLC options... it is pretty tempting. The additional fact which ever console I pick will have better graphics and online modes are just icing. Think about it though, I can team up with the people I just spent all weekend playing with if I wanted to, not on the Wii though.
I think the publisher is purposely shooting themselves in the foot by not trying to find a way to do DLC for the Wii. And I can't be the only one thinking such. I think nintendo needs to find out why games geared around DLC and Online are being 'stripped' when put on the Wii and try to solve the problem the best they can. But sure enough, it is the publishers that should answer first for why they are giving wii owners the short end of the stick. Simply the silence they give points blame to their own laziness.

Okami?
Is any one getting Okami? And should I get it?Im pretty interested in it. It looks pretty cool!Okami?
I will. If you're interested than you should too. Especially if you didn't play the PS2 version.Okami?
I had started playing the game on ps2 and got about 3-5 hours in and they announced it for wii so i decided to hold off and wait for the wii version because it felt like it would be great on the wii and i wanted the experience still to be new.
I recomend it. im getting it and I have the PS2 version.
if u dont have the ps2 version, you should get it for sure
A must play for any Zelda fan or anyone looking for a qualty title. The visuals are an acid trip, characters are charming, and the story is solid.

Will We be able to use the Guitar Hero's ...
Then We will be able to have 2 guitars on hand that would be real cheaper if we already own GH.Will We be able to use the Guitar Hero's ...
You can on the PS3 and 360 version, but I dont know what interface the Rockband Wii version uses. I dont see why not though. Will We be able to use the Guitar Hero's ...
I remember reading somewhere that it's not going to be GHWii compatable.

Should I purchae WII's Twilight or RE 4 ...
I own a Gamecube and I know I can play Resident Evil 4 or Twilight Princess Gamecube versions on the Wii.But are those WII versions the same but just use the Wii Controls, or is it look better or play better etc.....I wanna know what is different about the versions. Will there be other Gamecube games made to the WII.Should I trade both games in for the WII versions? Or keep the cube versions.Should I purchae WII's Twilight or RE 4 ...
On Twilight Princess: I bought the GC version and never played the Wii version. On RE4: Its the exact same game as the GC but with all the bonus material of the PS2 version. You aim by pointing at the screen. In my opinion, the aiming of the Wii made the game a whole lot easier than the GC version. I own both and they are both great. If ou already have the GC versions of these games then don't buy them again just for the Motion controls. TP is still $50 and RE4 is $30.Should I purchae WII's Twilight or RE 4 ...
The RE4 wii version has new modes from the PS2 version, and awesome controls. Twilight Princess, no added content, the controls aren't worth selling the same game ovver. So, RE is worth it, but Zelda isn't.
RE4 Wii has a couple more extras that are not on the Cube version. Twilight Princess is pretty much the same.
Making Cube games for Wii? I don't get it... The Wii plays Cube games.
This should go in the recommendation thread. But I'd say RE4.
Please use the recommendation thread for any questions about which game you should get. :)

If you still need a Wii...
...show up at your local Target this Sunday. Most Targets are receiving a shipment but are holding them until Sunday because the Wii is featured in the ad. Store opens at 8, tickets are handed out at 7, I would suggest being there at 4 or 5 if you really want one.If you still need a Wii...
BumparooIf you still need a Wii...
ya i checked out a tracking site on that info too. don't know if i'll go or not
Toys R Us is also holding onto Wii's till Sunday. It will be in their ad.
Our local Blockbuster store has 3 in stock. All our huge stores here in BC Canada never get WII's in anymore. Or at least they keep telling me they're sold out.

Wii won't spit the disc out, help me! Ur ...
So yeah, I haven't played my Wii in a while, nor did I pay attention while putting in the CD. I am not sure, but I think I might have put the CD in the wrong way. It is not reading the CD, as I cannot start the game, and when I press the eject button it doesn't spit it out.

It should eject it. Mine done the same after i dropped it. The only thing you can do is take it back to the shop and get it replaced if its insured if not phone Nintendo and ask them to replace it.Wii won't spit the disc out, help me! Ur ...
i actually did that too but it automatically came back out. did you try and unplug the wii and start over.
That sucks. I'd not do anything and take it back to the shop. You don't want to risk farther harm to your Wii or game.
anyone got their number?
You can get their number by going to nintendo custumer support on the nintendo web site.
Can't find it:/ someone please copy paste it !
Are you in North America?
I'm in Europe, but I'll call to any of their hotlines as long as someone answers the phone and speaks proper english >.
Try turning it upside down, and hit eject. if that doen't work try it again, except sideways. Maybe even shake it a little. Mine got stuck before, but after trying a few things, I got it out.
What a **** I called the american customer support and they said ''I r cant help u kuz u r in europe'' I'm like ''beeyotch wtf does that have to do with anything? The console is the same whatever region I am from. Region locking games doesn't mean that you region lock the console getting **** up'' I'll have to call the UK central tomorrow -_-
have u tried kicking it?
throw it in the garbage and buy a new one. done!
1-800-255-3700.If your Wii is frozen, you could try unplugging it and then ejecting. But I suggest asking Nintendo before doing anything.
I found the nintendo europe website: http://www.nintendo.be/ It should have the nintendo Europe help line for whatever part of europe you are in. The number should also be on some of the papers from the box your wii came in that on the back should have the numbers. Let us know what happens tomorow.

What is a Harder gh3 song Through the fi ...
Which do u think is harder???What is a Harder gh3 song Through the fi ...
I'd say Through the Fire and the Flames. A big reason is because of it's lenght. The song lasts forever. But it's overall playing difficuly is still harder, I say.

me getting 1 2day hopefully.
Just try and call thats how i got mines i want everyone to get a wii.
I didn't get mine but I noticed a bunch more wiis just went up on ebay.
This guy right here. But I can't complain too much. If people are still willing to wait hours outside in a line to get one when stores open (I am not one of those), then those people deserve one before me. For now I'm content to wait until I can walk into a store and buy one, which doesn't seem to be any time soon.
i still havent gotten one because i am not, and will never, wait outside in a line for hours for a console or anything else for that matter. im guessing it will be march before i can get one. im getting kind of frustrated that i kept hearing about how nintendo was able to mass manufacture wiis and theyd have 7-9 million churned out like nothing, and here we are close to february and it seems that just under 4 million have been sold and you cant find them anywhere. i generally disagree with accusations that companies create hype by purposefully creating scarcity, but im kind of suspicious here. and i know nintendo has been accused of this before. oh well, i guess i wont have a wii for a while now.
not really trying right now. still holding off for the Black Wii.
Got mine yesterdAY... They only had 3 left when i went to gamestop.
glad I got mine on November 17th
i haven't... and wont get it until the... lets say... april or may..
Me neither. tried to wait early yesterday but my mom wouldn't drive in the huge snow accumulation.
i havent.. i pre ordered from hmv on the 3rd of december.... how long more do you think i will have to wait... and no i am not gonna wait outside for hours or call every single morning...
dont worry.
I havnt :(
i STILL dont have one seeing as the stores that were selling them sold them on the **** 19th im pretty freaking pissed......and even MORE pissed at the fact the a WHOLE bunch of Wii's just went up on Ebay....PoS ebayer's there are other out there who want the Wii more then you
I was to tired to lake up early yesturday (late night parties) SO i still don't have my Wii, better get one soon :(oily skin

Defend Your Castle Wii
If You've looked on IGN you may have seen that Defend Your Castle is getting its own wii game. Yes i do mean Defend Your Castle the little flash game where u pick up little people and fling them into the air. Its coming out as a $5.00 WiiWare game with 4 player support co-op and better/changed graphics. Stick figures are now armed with office supplies as they attack you and no longer go splat in a pool of blood but other than that the game remains the same. I just wanted to know how many people will be making the $5.00 purchase of this flash title and why. I know i will because i support flash work i and try to support flash games that become regular console games....as rare as it is. Will the fact that you can already play this game free on your wii browser stop u from buying it for the 4 player support? What do you think about more flash games becoming WiiWare games and such? Would you go as far as purchasing flash like movies on WiiWare?Defend Your Castle Wii

It's not a flash game. It's a 2D game with paper textures. It's way more worth than a flash. The one on Wii has way more content. For anyone that is a fan of the free flash one, the 5$ for the wiiware game is a steal.

Don't buy a remote charger because rechargeable AA batteries are better. You can get 4 AA batteries and a charger for cheaper, plus they can be used for other things besides the Wii.
I use the standard AA charger I always used. When that breaks, I'm going to shake the batteries with my hands until they recharge.
i got the one that plugs into the wii usb. dont leave it on, dont cut it off, it charges in STANDBY!!!!!

How do you guys like Toon Link in Brawl?
I just unlocked him after beating SSE and think he's a fun variation of adult Link. He's a bit on the weak side, but he's can jump a lot higher, his down air smash is a lot faster, his bombs have a bit more range I think, his bow doesn't need to be charged all the way and a few more changes are good. Have yet to play online, but he's pretty cool. Sword range is a tad short, though :?How do you guys like Toon Link in Brawl?

The Wii's only strength = exclusives
I need to discuss something. Many people here want wii versions of games from other platforms (multiplatform games) however it will NEVER be as good as or better than other versions. You see when games are designed for PS3/X360 or PC it usually have HD graphics, great online service, etc. that wii can't handle. Multiplatform games will NEVER excel on the wii.The reason would be that the devs have to create an entirely different version of the multiplatform game. It should have great graphics that the wii is capable of (better than last gen) and should be designed on the use of the wii-mote. It SHOULD also be a completely entire new game SOLELY designed for the wii. They will then have to invest time for research or redesigning the game for the wii's features which will take time and manpower from devs.say for example RE5. They have no problem with the reasons above but they still have one BIG problem. If Capcom makes a Wii version of it it will take manpower and time. The problem is that in my speculation their RE team are focusing on the ps3/x360 versions of the game. If Capcom need to release it nearer the release of the ps3/x360 versions they would need an entirely new studio. This is the reason of the studios for the wii being different from their original team. Let's see Alone in the Dark. Who is developing for the wii version? The Obscure dev who are also making the ps2 version instead of eden. i say companies let other studios that aren't very talented like their main studio to make the wii version. The wii will still get a great multiplatform game. This is possible but the problem is that it is most likely to be compared with the ps3/x360 versions which are designed for HD graphics, etc. Games designed for a graphical powerhouse will have to be DUMBED DOWN if ported to the wii. Alan Wake and RE 5 uses lighting effects for gameplay which the wii can't probably handle. Let's not even bother the king of graphics as of now which is Crysis. And so, it needs an entirely new design. example would be Pro Evo 2008 wii version. it will entirely depend on the wii's design and feature. The wii's strength is in the exclusives. Name one great and epic wii game that is a multiplatform. NONE. A game designed for the wii will excel in the wii. also, a game designed on the wii will have to be also DUMBED DOWN if ported to the ps3/x360. Zack%26Wiki, NMH, Wii sports, etc. will be utterly toned down. Have you also considered that most if not all DS' killer games are exclusives? The wii is entirely different and unique as is the DS. If you want a dev to make an epic game it should be designed SOLELY for the wii and most likely an exclusive. IMO this makes the wii even worhy of your purchase as its games can never be experienced and played the way it's meant to be played on other platforms. The Wii's only strength = exclusives
Yeah, a lot of people wish that Super Smash Bros. Brawl can go onto their PS3 or Xbox 360. But that will never happen, it will never excel on another console! The Wii's only strength = exclusives
Yeah, a lot of people wish that Super Smash Bros. Brawl can go onto their PS3 or Xbox 360. But that will never happen, it will never excel on another console!
nintendo games are an exception because you know they can never be developed on a non-nintendo platform.
It's annoying when devs don't put effort into the Wii version of multiplats though.Pro Evo is an example where the Wii version is superiorOther than that yeah most of the time it's wishful thinking for alot of games to hit the Wii.
Yeah, a lot of people wish that Super Smash Bros. Brawl can go onto their PS3 or Xbox 360. But that will never happen, it will never excel on another console!
you also have to take into account that there are certain games and genres like fighting and hack and slash games that aren't fit for the use of wii-mote. On the FPS and RTS side however, it has big potential.
Yeah I agree. Great post. But of course there are a few exceptions where the Wii version can be totally redesigned for the wiimote, like Pro Evo 2008.
It's annoying when devs don't put effort into the Wii version of multiplats though.Pro Evo is an example where the Wii version is superiorOther than that yeah most of the time it's wishful thinking for alot of games to hit the Wii. However, i will doubt devs will do these kinds of things. how lazy and blind they are. i hope they will soon regret it in the end.

''The wii's strength is in the exclusives''I fully agree. I own a wii and a 360 at the moment (had a PS3, will get one again in the future) And the only wii titles I give a dam about are exclusives like Endless Ocean, Zack %26 Wiki, No more Heroes, Fire Emblem etc.People like me with multiple consoles will nearly always pick the multiplat titles on the higher powered console. Thats not saying the wii is bad, but good wii games need to be thought out for the wii from the ground up imo.
It's not the only strength though. What about the few hundred games we'll see on VC/Wiiware?
Or originality? It comes close to exclusives, but there's a difference.
And every game in the wii library plays different. It's kind of an anti-cloning console.
Another strength would be versatility.
Check out the genres that appear on the wii You rarely find them anywhere else. Point and click adventure, 2d shooter, self-help, lightgun shooter, adventure/FPS, platformer/RPG, action/RTS.
Another strength would be quality of service, hardware, and pricepoint of both software and hardware.
It also got a really strong offline multiplayer.
You make a good post, but i just wanted to remind people that is not the only good aspect about having a wii.
Last I checked, the classic controller had just as many buttons as the DS3 and the 360 controller. The placement is eaven pretty similiar (with the exception being the should buttons). The issue is that the Wii requires much different techniques to really take advantage of the visuals and capitalize on the controllers available. The developers have been spoiled up to this point as the systems have been pretty similiar. As the industry grows and evolves there is going to be more differentiation and they are going to develop faster and have a shorter lifetime. Developers need to start really embracing the individual systems and their strengths and stop trying to Be all things to all people. You can't be the best if you are focusing on being a jack of all trades and if you just follow the leader you'll always be late. I completely agree that the wii's strength is in exclusives. I don't agree that multiplats are a lost cause. It's just going to take a team that is willing to take the time to make a good port instead of goinng the traditional route and then putting stop gaps in for the differences. Take a look at Foce Unleashed and you'll see a proper multiplat for the Wii. They didn't disregard the Wii completely, and they didn't take the PS2 version and rig up a half baked control scheme. They took advantage of what was available to them and leveraged the strength of the system.
Pro Evo wii version was really designed for the wii.
Completely false, it's a direct port of the PS2 version with Wii controls. The only difference between the PS2 version and the Wii version are the controls and the game runs better on the stronger hardware.Saying Pro Evo was designed for the Wii is like saying that Twilight Princess was designed for the Wii.
I agree entirely that the Wii's only strength is exclusives. I for 1 specifically bought the wii for those games. I have a 360 if I want to play multiplatform stuff since its got HD and great online support. I've had my wii for about a year now and I have bought 3 games, SSBB, SMG, and Zelda: TP. I plan to get Mario Kart when it comes out, and at some point I'll get metroid prime 3. But other than that, I could really care less about the Wii. The only 3rd party game I can even see myself buying is the Tales of Symphonia game if they ever bring that over to the US.
I disagree that it is merely exclusives. I think it was pointed out that some games play ok on other systems, but if done properly, the Wii control scheme kicks things up a notch. A friend of mine has Madden for the 360, but when that broke (go figure) he got a Wii and got the game (he likes his football =p ). He enjoys it even more now just because of the control scheme. If devs really take the time on multiplatforms, I see the Wii excelling in various areas where the game is multiplatform but its just so much more fun to play the Wii way. Of course the system exclusives are super helpful, no one can deny that but to be honest, as an owner of a 360/Wii (and a PS3 soon) I would give the Wii version of a game the green light before playing it on the other consoles. I just don't button mash all that well and I have a PC that makes all the pretty pictures. That's just me and my systems though and I don't expect it to be a general consensus.-S
As far as control for fighting games like Street Fighter? There's always the Classic Controller and Gamecube Controller options. It defeats the purpose of the Wii ultimately, but for certain games, a more classic control style is a must to have as an option. It'd be great if they offered a ''Wii-Play'' style deal with a Classic Controller and Street Fighter bundle, IF a Wii version is released. Granted, everyone knows Wii isn't the powerhouse that PS3 and 360 are, but if you're speaking of the new Street Fighter, I don't really think a Wii version is impossible. It might be lower res, but Wii could handle the ''painted'' style of the visuals and online battles. There doesn't look like there's really anything too hardware taxing going on with the game as of yet.I don't believe Wii's only strength is in its exclusives. As a few mentioned before, some games benefit a good deal from the use of Wii's IR. Bully, RE4, the Madden games, any random Golf game, EVO, The Godfather, and as you said, especially FPS's. Really though, whether a game benefits or not from use of the Remote, its on the developer. They can either choose to create something unique or just simply replace button presses with waggle. I guess if they DO create something unique for the system, it IS exclusive, eh? So, yeah, you're right in a certain aspect.I just wish more Devs would spend more quality time on quality products because Wii COULD be a truly quality system. I hope the whole ''We gotta jump on the bandwagon!'' phase ends soon and we some more well-executed games get released. Wii is a unique experience and it should be treated as such. It deserves more than PS2 ports. It can do so much more and its sad that devs don't harness its power. I'd like to see a long, story-driven based Wii game with well thought out and executed use of the motion controls. Something along the lines of Bioshock. I wouldn't even care if we have to wait a few extra development months for it. Just make it quality!Anyway, heres to hoping The Force Unleashed turns out as good as I hope! Looks to be a great game no matter what platform one might get it for.
SO U GUYS ARE STILL FIGHTING OVER THE GAMPLAY VS GRAPHICS THING........maannnn u are geting old with this..... :/
Not the gameplay vs. graphics thing again, it's making me sick. And there are exceptions like Madden, Pro Evo Soccer, Bully...
The wii is entirely different and unique as is the DS. If you want a dev to make an epic game it should be designed SOLELY for the wii and most likely an exclusive. IMO this makes the wii even worhy of your purchase as its games can never be experienced and played the way it's meant to be played on other platforms.
I agree completely and I bet Nintendo already knows this. Having Wii exclusives was the intent of Nintendo and we are witnessing the progression as we speak.
Good post and conclusion :D

On the FPS and RTS side however, it has big potential.
Yeah I agree. Great post. But of course there are a few exceptions where the Wii version can be totally redesigned for the wiimote, like Pro Evo 2008.

However, i will doubt devs will do these kinds of things. how lazy and blind they are. i hope they will soon regret it in the end.

Oh Wiimote, I can't quit you.
I find it so hard to go back to the average PS controller. I'm such a big Sony fanboy but I've gotten so used to the Wiimote and nunchuk and everything else seems dull. I realized it when I was thinking about buying Okami for the Wii. I already have it for the PS2 and haven't even beaten it so it'd be a waste to just blow $40 just because it's on the Wii. But then I realised that it'd be a little more fun on the Wii.Anyone else feel the same and find it hard to go back?Oh Wiimote, I can't quit you.
I felt the same when I went back to Zelda: WW after beating TP. Also, the Wii-mote and Nunchuk combo is the most comfortable controller I've ever held.Oh Wiimote, I can't quit you.
except for Brawl I agree

I just want a more defined way to use the Wii remote, like, let's get developers using livemove technology, which seems to be doing really well for itself, why can't developers use it, and make good motion controls? Think people, Think!

Cant agree more with the orignal poster. The other pads feel like im in jurassic era.
There was a time where I had problems just holding a normal controller. Heck, I can't play Super Mario 64 due to me constantly shaking the controller in mid-jump!(BTW it doesn't work, no backwards compatibility with spin jumping)Then I sat down, started Dragon Warrior 7, and took my time just selecting. It took a little bit, but soon I was able to play without shaking again! Then i celebrated by playing FF3 for DS. Now i can't stay with an RPG unless i can select everything without a stylus....
After experiencing Metroid Prime 3, going back playing FPS on the PS2 and XBOX felt like playing tennis with my hands tied.I still like standard controllers, but the Wiimote is the sweet cherry nowadays (if only it had another analog stick... erm...).
I bet thats how they feel about going back to the Wii's graphics.
I think its safe to say we all love the wiimote.but all of you are crazy, Brawl is best played with the Wii remote sideways.
I totally agree with you :)since I got my wii I haven't played a FPS on any other console, but can imagine how strange it must feel! Not long after getting my wii (and playing TP heaps) I decided to play Kingdom Hearts. I kept on loosing battles because instead of hitting X to attack I kept on shaking the controller! :P (luckily I was by myself)then I also played Burnout on PS2 and started twisting the controller from side to side when I wanted to turn a corner :P It must've looked like I had never played a game before in my life! :oops:The wii remote/nunchuk combo has to be one of the best controllers ever made :D

Have we had any news regarding...
the DVD compatibility? I'm not disappointed that the Wii can't do this, but is it still in planning?Have we had any news regarding...
do u have another console or a dvd player?Have we had any news regarding...
Yeah I have a DVD player, but I have to constantly switch the wires in the back of the TV in order to play DVDs. I don't have another console.
Wow, why don't we get a VCR attachment while we're at it. That format's going to be near dead not far after Nintendo's onto their next console. We don't need it.Who here would like to spend $20 on a cheap DVD player over buying a whole new console or an attachment that'll surely cost far more than the DVD player?Invest in a switch box if you're tired of changing the plugs in the back of your TV. That's how I have all my old consoles hooked up to one screen.
Invest in a switch box if you're tired of changing the plugs in the back of your TV. That's how I have all my old consoles hooked up to one screen.
And they only cost $11 or so. DVD player + switch box is still less than an overpriced non-necessary peripheral.
I don't think they have announced that they were going to put DVD compatibility on the Wii, at least not in the US.
do u have another console or a dvd player?Have we had any news regarding...
That's how I have all my old consoles hooked up to one screen.

time for the other franchises to come to ...
well... nintendo finally released SSBB and mario kart wii is coming, so... what next??? people are talking about starfox, f-zero, kirby, even kid icarus, y personally think that is about time that other franchises hit the wii!!! franchise like capcom's megaman or devil may cry, how cool could it be a 3D version of castlevania using the wiimote like a whip... what do you think???time for the other franchises to come to ...
The Wii's potential is nigh unmatched with its control possibilities...
Let's just hope developers can realize that potential.
Good ideas though - Megaman/Castlevania could both work well. time for the other franchises to come to ...

I don't ever want to see another 3D Castlevania, those belong in 2D. I'm actually really looking forward to a new Kid Icarus, at least that'll be something new, we haven't seen one of those since the original Gameboy. That has great potential. As for 3rd party franchises, they'd have to be exclusively made for the Wii for me to take them seriously.
kid ikarus was a NES game not a game boy one (as far as I know).about castlevania... is time to make to make a change like zelda OoT, one of the greates game ever!!!!

Nintendo is announcing a new franchise at E3 if you haven't heard.

wiimote questions
Is it normal for the wiimote to shut off quickly after pressing the ''home'' button? Only during virtual console though, the menu seems to work fine outside of virtual console. But while playing virtual console games with the classic controller plugged in, it usually shuts off so quick I can't even reset the game. I have to turn it on again and navigate the menu quickly before it shuts off again. Is that normal?Outside of the virtual console the wiimote has only shut off once undesirably. That was after quitting bowling and returning to the Wii Sports main menu. Is it normal for it to shut off by itself on occasion?I have a rechargeable battery pack from Psyclone Essentials. Anybody know if that brand is any good? Could this be related to the wiimote shutting off? My friend said Psyclone products pretty much suck, so I was curious. And, maybe most important and simple: Can I charge the battery pack by plugging the wiimote into a usb port on my laptop? It doesn't seem to charge plugged into the wii when the wii is in standby, and I'd like to be able to turn off the wii while charging the wiimote.I'm paranoid I may have screwed up going with a no name brand battery pack. Thanks for the help.wiimote questions
Wiimotes aren't supposed to do that. And I've never heard of ''Psyclone Essentials'', so you might've bought a bogus brand battery pack. And no, you can't charge the wiimote by plugging it into a USB port, as the Wiimote wasn't meant for Rechargeable batery packs in the first place.wiimote questions
That's really strange. It sounds like there's more going on than just a battery pack issue. It could be the cause, but your Wiimote or your Wii might be messed up. Never heard that one before, hmm....good luck!
Just buy rechargeable double AAs. They are much better then those battery packs which can damage the wiimote.

One-to-one lightsaber combat?This'll either be a great step-up for the Wii,or a tiring,tacked-on disaster.
I hope it is online and they get right the Wii motions
Meh, im still more interested in the PS3/360 Versions, just because of those two engines.. the control setup doesnt look that great to me, looks more or less like waggle, which i hate.
I saw a big spreadsheet explaining all the different and specific motions for specific actions. That's very much the opposite of ''waggle''. If you want to be a lazy gamer, just admit that.

I saw it too. Its not one to one. Its swing left and right for slashing left and right, up and down for up and down, and a jab motion -- similar to Dragonblade = Lame.

one to one comment was to VG. I wont judge the control scheme yet, but it sounds like waggle to me. Im still far more interested in the PS3/360 versions than the Wii version. The control scheme has to be really satisfying for me to consider it over the others.

Im not interested in the shiny objects. The whole game is about how good the physics engines are, yet the Wii is unable to completely handle those two. Its going to be a gimped version of the game, even if it has 'extra levels and dueling' it takes away from what the game is trying to accomplish.
