I mean, A fat plumber with an addiction for wild mushrooms attempting to rescue a princess from a deformed overgrown turtle is just as cool as a deformed hedgehog that spins around at the speed of sound assisted by a nerdy fox and an almost extinct species that's extremely gullible and headstrong attempting to save the world from domination by an extremely obese evil scientist.Seriously, No Joke.I'm a huge Sonic Fan, And I'm a huge Mario fan. Both of their game series are extremely fun. But the thing is that Sonic had TWO bad games and an outspoken group of Nintendo fans are going all crazy about it, despite the fact that Mario had no real games besides Mario Galaxy (Which was a cool type of epic, but a bit overrated, IMO). And Sonic Heroes had a terribly sucky and terrible story story, but, think about it, the gameplay was fine.I think that Sonic has just about redeemed himself with the Sonic rush games and ''Sonic and the Secret Rings''.I'm just hoping that Rabid Sonic haters will shut up after the release of Sonic Unleashed.I like both Sonic AND Mario.

Yeah. 2 bad games and Sonic is dead... nonsense. Might as well say Donkey Kong is dead too.
If Sonic Unleashed is as incredible as people are hoping, then odds are the Hedgehog will be forgiven for most of his past blunders. I think the reason Mario hasn't fallen victim to the same terrible games Sonic has is because there's only been one true Mario platformer released each generation since games went 3-D. The games have a lot of time put into them, and most Sonic games just wind up being rushed. Sega's mascot still rocks on the DS, and Sonic Chronicles looks great, but he hasn't produced a truly great 3-D game yet, just a couple, at most, that some people thought were good (including Sonic and the Secret Rings). A 2.5-D Sonic game, like I think Sonic Unleashed will be, should be as great as the great DS titles that stick to Sonic's 2-D roots.
The thing is, all of Sonic's recent games have been fairly good at best, while the handful of 3D Mario platformers have all been excellent.Sonic Unleashed is looking better so far, but Sonic Team is really scaring me with the ''werewolf Sonic'' thing, because when Sonic team strays from a good formula, they usually screw it up.
As stated before, that's because Mario usually only has ONE actual platformer per recent console, and Sonic Team tries to squeeze in Numerous games per platform. On the Dreamcast, they started production on SA2, almost immediatly after SA1 was released. There's not really enough 3D Mario platformers for a handful. There's only three, at the top of my head-Mario Sunshine, Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy. But I completely agree with you on the second part.
I gotta say my faith in the blue hedgehog is coming back. I recently picked up Sonic and the secret rings and it's not bad at all and today I picked up Sonic Rush for the DS and so far it rocks I might have to pick up sonic rush adventure when I'm done with it.
Sonic had a lot more than 2 bad games. There hasn't been a 3D Sonic game released yet that did the series justice. Even the Rush games don't hold up to the games on the Genesis. Sonic peaked in the early 90's and has been in freefall ever since.

If I were going by my own opinions, I'd say every game except '06 rocked. The only widely hated games are '06 and Shadow the hedgehog. The rest are considered decent by the majority.
Sega milked the sonic franchise so much, is ridiculous to see a sonic game every year.btw sonic is no way near dead, how many copies sold MASATOG??? :P

Nintendo puts a lot of work into a Mario game to make sure that it is a good as possible. We do not know how long sonic team actually worked on SA, but we do know they put at most 2 years work on SA 2, probably a little less. That is way less than Nintendo puts into a Mario game, which is why only one Mario game usually comes out per console.-Shark2k

Excuse my double post, but I think this is all pretty ironic.Sonic's meant to be the fastest thing alive, and his story is based on speed, but the reason for his recent decline is because of his rushed games.
I love them both. Sonic Spinball was the first game I ever owned (it was bundled with my Genesis) and I got the original Sonic game next. I loved playing them. So I'm always going to like Sonic, but I have enjoyed the Mario games lately more than the Sonic ones (besides SA1 %26 2). It's a toss up to say who I actually like more.In Brawl though, Sonic > Mario. No doubt.
Yes yes, both of these guys make a living by jumping on countless enemies :P
Sonic of old was good because he didn't talk and the background music didn't have lyrics. I feel like Sonic team tries too hard to make Sonic 'cool'. Sonic is cool looking character based off a cool looking animal, but when you keep creating hedgehog after hedgehog after hedgehog, it gets pretty boring - I'm talking about Shadow, Metal Sonic, Amy, Silver, and that bad guy thing from Sonic 2006. Come up with new characters that don't have cool spikes. Let's keep Sonic's mouth closed and have him star in a game with more than eight levels - I can't stress that enough. Sonic games are ALWAYS friggen short. I don't want to beat eight levels and then have the game tell me, ''go and do this level again, but this time don't touch anything!'' As for Mario... keep on truckin' and remember, this is my opinion :)
Yeah, I get you. I'm one of those few people who are actually glad about SOnic being able to speak, so I'm not going to start a debate on that. And Sonic Games have ALWAYS been short. I've been able to beat most if not all within a week. I'm just concerned with the amount of fun the game contains. The missions are a pain, though, so I completely agree with that.I'm starting to wish Miyamoto started developing his games, but I don't want the Sonic and Mario series to merge.*Imagines Sonic in Mario Party 9**Weeps profusely*
