New Balance Board ad - Quite smart [Edit ...

I don't know if the Balance Board is being advertised in USA and how, but here in France where I live, I happened to see an interesting ad for the Balance Board. I actually just heard it, since I was in my room, but I could clearly listen to the TV. The ad just said something like:''This is the Balance Board. Put it in front of your TV. Stand on it. Balance Board, to be used with the Wii.''See it? No? Well, the ad is advertising solely the Balance Board, not WiiFit. It's pretty smart from Nintendo, people won't think the Balance Board is just for WiiFit, but for a range of games that will be advertised later (Reggie confirmed there are more than 10 games being developed right now).I just saw another ad, in the metro. It was a simple picture of the Balance Board and the text: ''This is a board. What is it for?''.As usual, Nintendo is doing it right. And maybe, it means the Balance Board may be sold separatedly sooner than we expect. Maybe on launch day, at least here in Europe.New Balance Board ad - Quite smart [Edit ...
ooh 10 games? i look forward to thatNew Balance Board ad - Quite smart [Edit ...
I too think that is a good way to advertise. I'd like to see Nintendo start promoting the balance board in the Americas soon (then again I haven't been watching much broadcast TV lately.) I'm really looking forward to WiiFit, along with what may just be some really great games that take good advantage of the Balance Board.
I do see the strategy of the way they revealed it... It's pretty ingenious if you ask me.

Consumer: ''Ooh, that looks fun, I'll pick that up''

*Wii Fit comes out*

Consumer: ...''and I can use it to get into shape, I gotta tell Aunt Susanne''

*Wii Fit and other games using the balance board sell millions*

That would be the most ideal way of it happening :P
For some reason Nintendo or the third party games sourrounding it do not advertise much in the uS. SSBB would have been even more than it was if they had a little better advertising than ''WII WOULD LIKE TO PLAY.''
I didn't think about it that way, but now it sounds like a very good strategy.
I edited it.

The ''Wii would like to play'' commercials feature a good catch phrase, but its not memorable.

It advertises the wii more than the software.

First it was just blockbuster that had them, then about right after Christmas, I started seing them everywhere.

Like the ones you see for games on the same magnitude like Halo 3. Now IM not saying Nintendo spends that much on marketting but I dont know why they are doing so little. Who ever is in their marketing department is really short sighted.

Nintendo's image this time around is strictly controlled by the headquarters, Iwata and Reggie are fully aware and apparently satisfied with it.Someone here said the ads advertise more the Wii than the games, and that's precisely want they want. Everything has to be under control: no one shall buy a game, but the Wii and its 'endless utopic happines'.
lol first time I've heard ''nintendo is doing it right, as usual'' when talking about their advertisingaltho it has been pretty good since the launch of the DS

Its nice to have a console sell but appearantly the Wii does not need advertising. What DOES need advertising is the software on it.This is not the right path because some games have suffered. notice the other consoles advertise third party games as well. Nintendo should have totally been behind games like MoH: H2 and Zack and Wiki. If they are going to do these ambiguous advertisements then show more games and not just games from Nintendo. If they want to get serious with marketing make some game specific commercials and inform the gamers that dont go to websites for their info. I know people buying games like Army of Two because they have a really good commercial but are in fact not very good games. If Nintendo really show cased SSBB in some ads they would have surpassed Halo 3 in best first week seller.
nintendo basically only advertises games in the uk, they have adds of like ian write (soccer player / footballer) playing pro evo and mario strikers, and people playing no more heroesthey're actually on quite a lot and normally at peek times too... they do quite a lot here now...

Sometimes, even WiiSports ads are back. And there's also celebrities in a few of them, PES for instance.
