Ok, so by now it's pretty well understood that some Wii's have a problem where the heatsink isn't connected to the board correctly which doesn't allow heat to escape the board thereby causing the Wii to overheat. We also know this is a cumulative problem that happens over time. This is why it's imperative to keep Wiiconnect/standby on at all time no matter your situation.1. Don't have internet to your console? Don't care, leave it on.2. Not really into the whole ''online experience''? Don't care, leave it on.3. Already leave it on? Don't care......well ok nevermind just keep doing it.The whole thing is that the heatsink problem only presents itself over time of having the heat NOT able to escape. That means to have the issue present itself quickly you need a way to keep the Wii working all the time and unless you have 24 hours a day to devote to playing it Wiiconnect/standby is your best bet.Now a lot of people are going to say that the Wiiconnect/standby function hurts the Wii and makes it overheat and that's 100% not true. It's a defective Wii being in use for a certain amount of time that causes it. If you played games just as long as you had Wiiconnect on the problem would also present itself. Even if you never have Wiiconnect/standby on the problem will present itself from just gameplay hours alone, it would just take longer. There is no need to abandon the Wiiconnect/standby feature because it doesn't harm the Wii in any way. A fully functioning Wii can use the Wiiconnect/standby feature just fine with no harm to the console. To shut off Wiiconnect/standby for fear of the console overheating makes as much sense as wrapping your head in aluminum foil to stop people from reading your mind. One is just as impossible and ridiculous as the other.Another waste of time and money are the fans sold to prevent overheating. These fans are a ploy to suck money out of misinformed users pockets. A fan does not help this overheating issue because the problem isn't airflow, it's heat escaping the board incorrectly. That means that no matter how much airflow you add the board still wont give up enough heat not to overheat.Bottom line is this. Even with Nintendo's customer friendly 15 month warranty on the Wii it's imperative that users find out if their Wii has this defect. The easiest way to make it show itself is to leave Wiiconnect/standby on. Then you can get it repaired so you have a perfectly working Wii.After which you can leave Wiiconnect/standby on worry free. You MUST Leave Your Wiiconnect/Standby O ...
You could have just said it's smarter to turn off Wii 24 connect because it could cause overheating and is pretty much a usless feature. You MUST Leave Your Wiiconnect/Standby O ...

Overheating, hardly, it takes much more than that little warmth to overheat the Wii.
I always leave mine on so this doesn't concern me.

just plug it off leave at on.... yeah right
just plug it off leave it on.... yeah right
I just unplug my Wii, when I'm not using it.It's alot safer that way.
I'm surprised at the amount of people that physically unplug their Wiis.Isn't it easier to just turn it off?
i had the belive that over use was bad for consoles

Wow. Just wow. Jaysonguy is trying to tell you to leave it on SO it will overheat before the warranty is up. The case is only a faulty console will overheat, and only over time. The best way to avoid the time delay is to leave it on all the time so you can make sure you have a good console in the first place. Once you know that you have a good console then sure turn off Wiiconnect/Standby if you want to save power.

I have had mine on ever since I had it and warrenty be gone (of course my first one had to be replaced, idk what happened with it), and it is still kicking. So far their hasn't been much use of 24-connect except updates but some games may use them later on (such as Animal Crossing).

People feel that the Wii is warm and freak out but it is normal. Also the Wii is mostly shell without padding so their is nothing to absorb the heat but the plastic shell and your hand (if you are touching it). Look at the PS3. It has huge lump and that part shouldn't ever feel ''warm''.
I have never been good with these overheating problems. I've had my Wii on Standby for about a year or so now and it hasn't overheated. I would assume that my Wii is not faulty then.
Wow, I just realized that my warranty on my Wii expired last month. After having their rep tell me it would cost $75+shipping just to look at my DS (there was static when i closed my lid to put it in sleep mode, it went away) I fear how much it would cost to replace my Wii.Good thing I've already left my Wii on standby for a week, it was hot, but I haven't had artifacting or lock-ups. I'm most surprised by how quiet the machine is when running Gamecube games. I was playing Tales of Symphonia last night when i noticed i couldn't hear the Wii at all. I even muted the TV, and nothing. It was such a stark contrast compared to the grinds and whirrs caused by Brawl and No More Heroes. I even touched the Wii after i finished, it was very, very cool, like it hadn't even been on.

That is why most people just read the first few sentances and post lol. Always attach a summary is a simple solution.
